3. Royalton Blue Waters

Location

Set on the coast of Falmouth, Trelawny, Royalton Blue Waters is located just about half an hour from Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay. Very close to the Martha Brae river which is perfect for rafting, the Rose Hall Great House which as a fantastic historical site as well as the Cinnamon Hill Golf Course.

Style

This hotel is a new generation hotel so you can expect a modern style and architecture. It has a very charming appeal.

Kid Friendly?

Blue Waters is one of the top family friendly hotels in Jamaica as kids under 17 gets to stay free at select times of the year. It has free water park access complete with water slides, a children’s club where you can leave your kids for a while supervised, and an outdoor tennis court.

Features & Activities

Other key features and amenities include 4 outdoor pools, 8 outdoor bars, and lounges, 2 swim-up bars, daily and nightly entertainment and laundry facilities. Water activities include kayaking and snorkeling. Finally one of our favorites is the full-service spa which offers hot stone massage, deep tissue massage, reflexology, manicures, pedicures, body treatment & facial treatment.

Restaurants:

You need great food to start and finish your day of course. Blue Waters have a range of cuisines that will be sure to up your appetite. We couldn’t have enough when we visited. There are 5 restaurants specializing in all-you-can-eat international cuisine, Asian cuisine, an American steakhouse, Mediterranean Cuisine and Italian Cuisine. There is also a delicious coffee and ice cream spot.

Rooms

Their 228 rooms consist of Junior suites and Presidential suites available with Street View, Ocean view and even Pool Side. Their rooms are equipped with a Flat Screen TV with premium channels and on-demand movies, premium bedding, refrigerator, air conditioning, coffee maker, phone, balcony or patio, USB recharge stations, Bluetooth audio stations, daily housekeeping and room service. We also appreciate their additional thoughtful touches such as bed slippers and bathrobes. Our point is these rooms are of the highest comfort for the price being paid and being a fairly new hotel it is very modern.

What makes it unique

What makes this resort absolutely amazing is that it is adjacent to Royalton White Sands. They allow you to take advantage of their ‘stay at 1, play at 2’ offer where you can use the amenities at White Sands even if you booked at Blue Waters.

Star Rating out of 5

This hotel is rated at 4.5/5  .

Our Rating out of 10

Overall it was an amazing experience for us and we have very little complaints. The Cons are that we would say it is a bit understaffed for the services being offered and the wait for food is sometimes a bit lengthy when it’s not buffet style. Despite being all-inclusive, reservations at some of the restaurants are sometimes hard to come by and unless you stay for about 3-4 nights it is unlikely you will get to eat at all of them. Finally, the night time entertainment is somewhat loud. The pros however very much outweighed the cons for us. Amazing rooms with comfy beds, a multilingual staff able to speak English and Spanish, the spa is world class, quality drinks, a jerk hut, a water-park….. its endless. You just have to go to check it out yourself. we give it an 8.7/10!

Price Range

It starts at $308 per night but can rarely go all the way up to $1,341 per night depending on what time of the year you book. We think you are getting your money’s worth for up to $800/night. Not the cheapest but definitely belongs here on our list.

2. Grand Lido Negril Au Naturel

Location

This hotel is, in fact, a Royalton Hotel as well despite not including it in it’s name. They are becoming big players in the Jamaican all-inclusive tourism industry. Located at the west end of Negril’s rocky shores of Bloody Bay, it is close to a number of attractions you can visit nearby. From restaurants such as Blue Mahoe Restaurant and Fireman’s Lobster Pit to attractions like Seven Mile Beach and Kool Runnings Water Park. You can also go for something different like Stanley’s Deep Sea Fishing which takes you out to sea on a huge boat. There are also tours that will take you places such as Rick’s Cafe, Black River Safari and YS Falls.

Style

It was hard not to include this hotel at number #1 on our list. It was just reopened in 2017. Like many of the Royalton hotels, it is fully renovated and is all luxury. The atmosphere of the rooms and restaurants feel really open. They are finished with very modern upscale decor. As suggested by the name this openness and the fact all suites are facing the ocean makes it feel very natural.  All this despite being a small and compact hotel. Don’t expect to see anything like smudgy glass and silverware. Everything is just brand new.

Kid Friendly?

This is a big NO! This hotel is in fact adults only. Only over the age of 21 is permitted. This makes it perfect for a couple or a group getaway. The private feel the suites give make it probably THE BEST all-inclusive hotel in Jamaica for your wedding honeymoon. In fact, go ahead and have your entire wedding there too. They have great packages for special occasions. Your guests would not be disappointed.

Features and Activities

  • There is not really a beach. Bloody Bay is known for its rocky shore but there is a ladder to climb down. Being a coral reef this setting is perfect for snorkeling but swimming shoes are absolutely necessary. The ‘dry beach’ also has waiter service.
  • The spa is huge and comes with a number of services such as outdoor and indoor massage, body & facial treatments, hydrotherapy, hot stone massage, sauna in spa, steam room in spa,  body wraps, body scrubs, aromatherapy, ayurvedic treatments, deep tissue massage and sports massage. Some spa services are not part of the all-inclusive package however and might cost extra.
  • 10 Restaurants
  • Inclusive Butler Service
  • 7 Bars
  • Concierge service
  • Coffee Shop
  • Free WiFi
  • Dry Cleaning/ Laundry Service
  • Computer Station
  • Free Valet Parking
  • Luggage Storage
  • Designated Smoking Areas
  • A garden
  • Gym & gym instructor who will give you an excellent workout or even yoga sessions.
  • Night Club
  • Gift Shops
  • Reception Hall
  • Kayaking and Snorkeling
  • Airport Transfers which cost extra
  • Jacuzzi

  • Motorized water-sports cost extra as they are provided by independent companies.

Restaurants

Just like Royalton Blue Waters, you can use facilities of hotels that are adjacent to this hotel. This includes restaurants at neighboring Royalton Negril and adults only Royalton Hideaway. Totaling 10 restaurants. On site restaurants include an American steakhouse, East Asian cuisine, Italian cuisine, a seafood restaurant, and international dishes.

Rooms

Oh, how we LOVE the rooms. This boutique resort chooses quality over quantity. There are 26 luxurious suites equipped with  premium handcrafted beds topped with high thread-count sheets, USB recharge and Bluetooth audio stations, in-room safe with interior power outlet, dual-head ceiling-mounted rain shower, satellite television with specialty channels, minibar, 24-hour room service, iron and board, coffee/tea maker, hairdryer, soap, shampoo, lotion, conditioner, towels, rags, and each room features a balcony or terrace. The Sunset Ocean View Suite comes with either a king size premium bed or two queen size, Jacuzzi soaker tub, rain shower, double sink, seating area with a sofa bed, and private balcony or terrace with full view of the ocean. The Sunset Swim Out Suite has all of that except comes with a bonus private swimming pool for each room. The Luxury Penthouse One Bedroom Suite comes with a special King Size bed designed by Royalton called their DreamBed™. it also has a walk-in closet, a huge living space, an indoor Jacuzzi and a private outdoor one on the rooftop overlooking the ocean.

What makes it unique

There are so many factors that make this place unique. Clothing is optional at this resort. Going nude might be a bad thing for some but an exciting aspect for others. Also, the ability to use the facilities adjacent hotels is something unique to the Royalton resorts. The upscale, modern design is probably the best in Jamaica. But the standout feature would have to be the spa, which is DEFINITELY the best resort spa on the island in our opinion.

Star Rating out of 5

This hotel is rated at 4.5/5  .

Our Rating out of 10

The staff is extremely friendly and are well trained. They are also multilingual speaking English & Spanish. We really don’t have many bad things to stay. The poolside bar was closed by 5 pm and the entertainment is a bit subtle and not very exciting. But that matches the tone the hotel is trying to set for its guests. Those are probably the only things. Persons walking around nude won’t suit all couples. But our opinion is you know what you are getting before you go there. This hotel might be the odd one out in our list because of this factor but we fully believe it deserves the #2 spot for being truly amazing for what it is. We give it a 9.2/10!

Price Range:

This hotel starts at $435 per night but can go up to $2000 per night depending on the time of year and availability. We think it is a one of a kind hotel and is worth every penny even if you spend the full $2000.

1. Moon Palace Jamaica

Location

Located in our favorite Jamaican town of Ocho Rios, our number #1 pick is Moon Palace Jamaica Grande! This 5-star resort is the best deal you can get. Not just for the price but also for the location. It is probably just around an hour and a half from either airport in Montego Bay and Kingston. Ocho Rios is full of things to do and places to visit nearby. If we list all of them it would be a very long list but some of the hot spots are Margaritaville, Dunn’s River Falls, Mystic Mountain Rainforest Adventures, Yaaman Adventure Park, Dolphin Cove, Usain Bolt’s Tracks and Records. And of course, with the new super highway built you can rent a car and drive to the south coast pretty quickly and see Kingston which is a different vibe all on its own.

Style

This hotel is a bay view, mountain view traditional style all-inclusive hotel that has been around for a while in Jamaica. However, it has been renovated fairly recently and major changes have been made to amenities to move it up to its current star rating. Most of the rooms are either ocean view or partial ocean view with a very modern and family-friendly decor and features. The hotel is also great for business travels with access to 6 meeting rooms and a business center.

Kid Friendly?

Yes! Definitely, this place is the perfect resort for a fun family vacation or to visit with all your friends. Sometimes parents choose places to meet the needs of their kids but are then disappointed because it lacks the amenities to please adults. We love Moon Palace because it is truly an all-rounder managing to give the kids what they want and the adults too. For the youngsters there is a kiddies pool, Pirates’ Paradise Water Park,  a state of the art playroom equipped with great games, a teen lounge, supervised childcare services, deli/ snack bars, children’s club, a computer station.

Features & Activities

Other than the ones listed above this resort is packed with great features & activities for adults and the entire family too. Here’s the list:

  • much more…

Restaurants

On site restaurants include international cuisine served overlooking the ocean and pool a Buccaneers Reef. La Gandola serves Italian. Pier 8 specializes in seafood. Momo serves Japanese. And finally, there are of course 24hr coffee shops.

Rooms

Despite having a whopping 705 rooms, the staff manages to keep everything in order. When you are out on a tour or by the pool during the day, they will clean and restock your room with all the necessities with your permission. All the rooms come with a balcony or terrace, king size or double beds, iron board and iron, hair dryers, towels, rags, shampoo, conditioner soap, lotion and bathrobes. Be sure to buy toothpaste elsewhere though, which is the case with most all-inclusive hotels in Jamaica. They also have a minibar and fridge fully stocked with waters, juice, beer, red wine and liquors. Flat Screen LED TVs, international telephone with no extra charge, charging stations and iPod docks are also in every room. There are deluxe ocean view rooms with smart TV as an additional feature, ocean view rooms, partial ocean view rooms, family deluxe room with an Xbox, and  Concierge Level Rooms with large living area, upgraded liquors, (2) 25-minute massages and a private candlelight dinner.

What makes it unique

What makes this place unique is the reason why we chose it to be number #1. It is just an absolute all-rounder in the way it pleases all groups and ages and still manages to do it at a 5-star level. The pricing is also very very reasonable when compared to similar hotels of this caliber.

Star Rating out of 5

As mentioned before, Moon Palace Jamaica comes in at 5/5 .

Our Rating out of 10

When it comes down to it, location, rooms, facilities put together Moon Palace is hard to beat. Our one complaint could be the wait time for food. Our rating is 9.7/10!

Price Range

This hotel is number #1 in part for the cost. It can go up to $1000 per night, but this is rare. Prices usually start from as low as $270 per night which is amazing for a 5-star resort.

  1. […] This should not be a problem. Jamaica is a big island that’s true, but with good road networks these days you can pretty much stay anywhere you like on the island and still get to the events easily and on time. You can book a bnb close by to where most of the events are held in Kingston. Or you can chill by one of the many all inclusive resorts  or villas in Ocho Rios, Montego Bay or Negril. If you want to couple the carnival experience with a really nice vacation destination be sure to check out our blog post on our favorite all inclusive destinations in Jamaica. […]
